Why the sub-floor is most of the price

LVT is thin and glued flat, so it copies whatever is underneath it. A bump you can barely feel with your hand will show as a shadow across the plank once the light hits it, and a hollow will eventually crack a joint.

So before a single plank goes down the floor gets cleaned, primed and levelled with a smoothing compound. A quote that skips this is cheaper on paper and dearer within two years, because the fix is lifting the lot.
