What changes the price
- Room size and shape — bays, alcoves and awkward cuts use more material.
- Quality and thickness of the carpet or LVT you choose.
- Underlay grade for carpet, or adhesive type for LVT.
- Sub-floor condition — loose boards, damp or uneven floors may need screed or ply.
- Stairs, thresholds and door bars, which are hand-cut and take longer.
- Lifting and disposing of the old flooring, and moving furniture.
- Small or intricate areas such as hallways, landings and cloakrooms, where the time on site matters more than the square metres, so these are priced per job.

Flooring cost questions
How much does carpet fitting cost in Northampton?
Carpet supplied and fitted is typically £15–£35 per square metre including underlay, grippers, door bars and taking the old floor away. A double bedroom usually lands between £210 and £490. Fit-only, where you have already bought the carpet, is quoted per job.
How much does LVT cost per m² fitted?
LVT supplied and fitted is usually £85–£100 per square metre depending on the range you pick and how much sub-floor preparation the room needs. A 12 m² kitchen typically works out at £1,020–£1,200. Small hallways and landings are quoted per job instead, because the fitting time matters more than the floor area.
Why are hallways and small areas not priced per square metre?
Because a narrow hallway, a landing or a cloakroom can take as long as a bedroom twice its size — every threshold, doorway and edge is hand-cut. Square-metre rates only work on straightforward open rooms, so small and intricate areas are quoted per job after a quick look, and you still get one fixed written price.
How much does it cost to carpet a whole house?
It depends on how many rooms and the stairs, but as a rough guide a three-bedroom house with stairs and landing is usually quoted as one package after a measure rather than room by room, which keeps the total lower than adding up single rooms.
Is the quote fixed, and is the measure free?
Yes. We measure free of charge anywhere in Northamptonshire and send an itemised written quote. The price is fixed before work starts, so there are no surprise extras once we are on site.
Can I save money by buying the flooring myself?
Sometimes, but not always — we buy from trade suppliers, so our supply-and-fit price is often close to retail. We are happy to fit materials you have bought elsewhere either way; just tell us the make and range so we bring the right trims and adhesive.
Do you charge for moving furniture or taking the old floor away?
No. Moving standard furniture, lifting the old flooring and disposing of it are included in the quoted price.
